The United States Coast Guard (USCG) issued a Preliminary Public Notice today requesting comments on the District of Columbia Department of Transportation’s (DDOT) proposal to replace the existing swing-type Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge over the Anacostia River with a new fixed bridge as part of the South Capitol Street Corridor Project. Comments are being requested from the standpoint of navigating the Anacostia River as it relates to the proposed fixed bridge at the existing bridge location.

As part of the 11th Street Bridge Project, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the southbound lanes of the Anacostia Freeway (DC 295), between Pennsylvania Avenue SE and the 11th Street Bridge, from 12 a.m. until 5 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013, weather permitting.
