As part of the 11th Street Bridge construction project, contractors for the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) may close lanes during off peak travel times on the 11th Street bridges, related ramps, and portions of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway, I-295/DC 295 and local streets until Friday, July 5, 2013.
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is eliminating the west side parking on 11th Street, SE between K Street and L Street starting today, Monday, February 4, 2013. Traffic will also be shifted to the east, maintaining one lane of traffic in each direction.
Following tomorrow evening’s rush hour period the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the eastbound Southeast Freeway, between 8th Street, SE and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE.
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is scheduled to close the westbound Southeast Freeway between Pennsylvania Avenue and 8th Street, SE after the morning rush hour on Thursday, November 29. The full closure of the westbound SE Freeway will remain in place for approximately 18 to 20 months while crews complete improvements to the freeway as part of the 11th Street Bridge Project – Phase 2 construction.
The 11th Street Bridge Project, the District Department of Transportation’s (DDOT) largest project to date, is nearing the substantial completion of Phase 1 and beginning the Project Completion Phase (Phase 2). Phase 2 will further improve connections between the SE/SW Freeway and the new 11th Street Bridges, and reconnect local streets on the west side of the Anacostia River. It will also lay the groundwork for the replacement of the SE/SW Freeway with an at-grade boulevard between 8th Street, SE and Barney Circle.
