Employment & Contracting Opportunities

The District Department of Transportation’s Anacostia Waterfront Initiative (AWI) Program is committed to ensuring that all segments of the local community benefit from the economic impact and job creation that all AWI projects will provide, particularly those communities that will be served by a specific project. Equally important is our commitment to diversity and inclusion in all of our programs and practices.

The AWI Program has established a DBE Program in accordance with the United States (US) Department of Transportation (DOT), 49 CFR Part 26. As with all projects using Federal funds, AWI projects require Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) firms to complete a percentage of the work. This includes both minority and woman owned businesses (MBE and WBE). The AWI Program DBE participation goal is 35 percent.

Firms interested in participating in AWI’s DBE Program must apply for entry through the District Department of Transportation’s (DDOT) DBE program. DDOT’s DBE certification is the only recognized authority for DBE certification for AWI projects.

Subcontractors and Suppliers seeking to maximize DBE opportunities on AWI projects can contact the AWI DBE Governance Manager, Iberia Miles at (202)741-8528 or Iberia.miles@dc.gov for more information.
